Every year in late August, is celebrated in the small fishing village of Combarro (Pontevedra) the Sea Fest. An opportunity to enjoy small and medium traditional Galician boats (dornas, galleons, gamelas ...). Again, do not miss it. I love this type of boats, especially the dornas (boat Galician Nordic influence derived from the Norman raids on the Galician rías). I prefer the smaller boats, I guess it's because my art in the handling of them is zero, and so it is easier to imagine myself sailing in one of them.
Having a small Dorna and go sailing is a dream to reach someday. A few years ago I discovered, to find against one that fascinated me. Chatting one day with my father left the subject, and to my surprise told me that his father, my grandfather loved the dornas too, they said they were seaworthy and liked to go for the port areas of Marin and Pontevedra to see.
My grandfather was a seaman. Skipper at the time that fishing the iron men engaged in wooden boats. Survived several wrecks and strafing by German fighters during World War II while fished between the coasts of Ireland and England.
I did not get to know him well, something I regret, because he died when I was very young. But I'm sure if we both liked the dornas in a moment of our lives is not mere coincidence.
A while ago settled in my mind an idea: there comes a time in the life of a man that must woodworking or sail the sea.
Why choose?
